Hickory’s Smokehouse, Chester.

When visiting Chester I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to visit Hickory’s, this is a smokehouse that I’ve been wanting to visit in a while and it seems that it was so popular combined with my lack of forward planning that I was never going to get in!

We turned up on the doorstep up after leaving another establishment because they had run out of Tuna Nicoise, this didn’t bode well for the pescatarian in the group.

One inside we asked for a table, luckily the manager suggested that we sit at the chefs table which gave us a great view of the kitchen. All of the tables soon filled and the place was heaving at 1pm on a sunny Monday afternoon.

I had the XXXL Roadhouse burger (£13.95) and beef chilli cheese fries, in the group a chilli dog was consumed, more fries with magic dust, plenty of coleslaw and the vegetable skewers looked amazing.

The Burger was good but I’ve had better and felt that it was a little over priced for what it was, I did really enjoy the Beef chilli on the fries and could happily eat a bowl of that with some nachos, sour cream and rice.

If you ever visit you’ll notice that the  selection of availible sauces, hot sauces is exceptional and by far the most I’ve seen under one roof, I tried a few but my favourite was the Bourbon BBQ chipotle sauce, which has a sweet start with a delicious spicy finish which was very morish and could be used as a dipping sauce for pretty much anything.

The restaurant is nice, modern and very child friendly with everything you need to keep a little one entertained, the children menu is comprehensive and everything I would expect. The adult menu is superb, lots to choose from and is almost a challenge to make a decision, I would happily re-vist and work my way through the different sections to sample all of the smokehouse delights.

The staff were freindly and efficient, we were turned around in less than an hour but non the less it was a very enjoyable experience, I’ll defiantly be visiting Hickory’s when I’m next in Chester.

I recommend before you visit that you try and book a table to avoid disappointment.

Hickory’s is country wide but the one I visited is located on Souter’s Ln, Chester CH1 1SD,  you can make a booking by calling 01244 404000
